What is a trademark lawyer?

In Australia, the two professions of trademark lawyers and trademark attorneys are confusingly distinct, though in most cases they undertake the same work.

A trademark lawyer refers to a solicitor or lawyer who specialises in providing trademark advice in relation to a trademark dispute, trademark registration and trademark infringement.  As a lawyer, they will have successfully completed a law degree and undertaken a minimum requirement of practical legal training.

A trademark attorney, however, is a person who holds a tertiary qualification (not necessarily a law degree) as well as further qualifications relating specifically to trademark law.

In Australia, a trademark solicitor may assist you in much the same matters as would a trademark attorney.
